How to Wear Velvet in the Daytime: In Particular A GOLD Velvet Jumpsuit, in the Daytime

Zara Gold Velvet Jumpsuit- BloggerNotBillionaire

Nothing says fall quite like a gold velvet jumpsuit…or at least I feel that way. When I saw this standout item at Zara a few months ago I couldn’t resist buying it even without trying it on. It was an item that, if you were so lucky, you might have dug out of a vintage bin somewhere after it already lived a life of disco and glamour. I had to buy it because I worried that if I didn’t in that inspired moment of boldness I might not have the guts to in the future, so purchase it I did.

The next question then is where do you wear a solid gold, full length jumpsuit that is about as shy and retiring as Dolly Parton? Luckily for us there are a lot of fashionistas trailblazing the all velvet look for everyday wear, most notably Gilda Ambrosio with her line Attico. How she styles her floor length wrapped evening style velvet dress is over a band tee with sneakers thus paving the way for gold velvet jumpsuits in Seattle. Styling is key here as we described, Gilda used other more casual elements in her wardrobe to make a bold velvet piece daytime ready.

You may notice we are all about dressing down the velvet rather than describing how to make it your key holiday look. This is because traditionally velvet is a go to in the holiday season and easily fits into the evening wear category. What we are seeing this season is velvet crossing that threshold into socially acceptable every day wear but navigating that transition requires a bit of finesse and the right complimentary elements.

In today’s look I used the same techniques trying to dress down and ‘normalize’ the jumpsuit for an average Seattle day. A vintage Levi’s jacket kept with the vintage vibe while a staple Alexander Wang long sleeve added layers and an even more casual fall-ready detail (the jumpsuit is sleeveless.) A suede belt tapped into luxurious fall hues which also happen to be 70’s favorites further enhancing the throwback vibe and the pop of white boots keeps the look relevant and adds a great contrast to the gold.

How do you feel about velvet for daytime? Are you ready? Let me know in the comments below and thanks for reading! -Rebecca
